The present boundaries of Peru border are the result of a consolidation process of many years, starting in 1821, based on the de jure possidetis 1810 and ended up settling in the twentieth century. They were not strangers to this process, the diplomatic efforts of the Peruvian Foreign Ministry and in some cases, resulted in armed conflict, armed forces gaining prominence. Until the nineteenth century, exerted an outstanding role in the Army, Navy and National Police in the conflicts that occurred in the twentieth century, so did the Air Force. The boundaries and configured, upon military conflict or not, culminating in a series of treaties, whether of Peace, Friendship and Limits of Navigation and Commerce or, as is the case of treaties and agreements with neighboring Amazon countries.
Peru is one of twelve independent countries of South America. Located in the central and western part of this part of America. It has a land area of 1,285,215.6 km ² and a perimeter of 6130.228 km, that are shared with all of its South American neighbors. The longest border and one of the most rugged, is with Brazil, which has a length of 2822.496 km from the mouth of the Yavari river mouth and Yaverija in Acre and takes place entirely in the Amazon rainforest and the shorter length, with Chile of just 169 km from the plateau of Ancomarca to the point called Concordia on the edge of the Pacific Ocean beach. -Peru-Chile:   from the plateau of Ancomarca, 17 ª 29 '57 "south latitude and 69 º 28' 28" W (UTM: N8031396, 478; E20229373, 478; Area: 0.000; Factor scale: 4.917) to the point called Concordia on the edge of the beach / Hito No 1 in the Pacific Ocean at 18 º 21 '03 ' south latitude and 70 º 22' 56 ' west longitude. These limits were approved in the Congress, by Law No. 24,650 of March 19, 1987.
